A retinal camera is used to capture colour images of the fundus (back of the eye), usually including the retina and optic nerve. This is helpful in recording baseline observations, so that if the fundus looks different in a few years’ time, those differences can be picked out. It is also helpful in regular monitoring of certain retinal conditions.

This series of colour retinal photographs documents a retina recently treated by Mr Shah with laser for diabetic retinopathy.
